Communication by Design: Looking Great in Print

I've presented this workshop many times for various audiences. It is best if the size of class is kept to about 25 or less. Ideally, the workshop requires three hours but it can be modified to suit diferent settings.

Through extensive "before and after" examples students see what steps they can take to vastly improve their design skills. The first section deals with using four basic design principles and is concluded with a pencil-and-paper hands-on exercise that everybody takes part in.

The second section is about typefaces and fonts, their use and characteristics and how to better implement type as a design component. Lastly, punctuation is explored in a fun way that always gets the students into lively debate.

Students attending do not need to have extensive knowledge of computer programs/applications. This workshop is about principles that help build a foundation to creating better quality printed promotional pieces.

10 Minutes: Introduction
50 Minutes: Four Design Principles
15 Minutes: Class Exercise
15 Minutes: Break
10 Minutes: Presentation of several exercises from before break
30 Minutes: Type and its Use
20 Minutes: Punctuation
30 Minutes: Wrap up and Questions
