WebSites for Artists and Small Organizations

It is best if the size of class is kept to about 25 or less. Ideally, the workshop requires three hours but it can be modified to suit multiple settings.

Versions of this workshop have been presented at Pacific Contact, Alberta Showcase, Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils, and the Arts Northwest Booking Conference.

This workshop will help give you a solid overview of the process of getting a website right from the first small steps to understanding where your pages end up being stored and how they get there.

I can modifiy this workshop to cater to specific audiences. Generally, I start from the beginning, discussing initial steps from getting an ISP (Internet Service Provider), email and a domain name all the way through to creating a basic site including how to scan a photo, graphic image formats and finally uploading content.

You will take part in in-class exercises where you'll analyse your own website needs based on your individual artistic product including the creation of a website schematic you can use right away or refine later.

The primary intent of the workshop is to come out with a clear overall concept of what is needed to get a web presence. You'll leave the session better prepared and armed with knowledge to make informed decisions on what you need to do and how to do it.

Is this session suited for me or my organization?
If you're thinking of getting a website or you currently have one but want to learn more about how it all works, you'll find this extremely helpful. You should also have a working knowledge of computers even though you won't be using one in the workshop.

This session isn't for you if you're an experienced webmaster or have extensive HTML background and other Internet-related skills.

Contact me to discuss options for presenting this with your organization.
